Today was a LONG day! I’ll spare you the details, but let’s just say it started with kid drama at 6:00am and was nonstop until my head hit the pillow at 11:00pm.
At around 2:50pm I felt my blood pressure kick up and my body start to tense up. I knew I was about to blow, like throw myself on the ground, toddler being told “no” kind of epic tantrum, freak-out!
Now, I’ll be honest , sometimes I actually want a "get-it-all-out" kind of tantrum. They can be just the cleansing release of pent up energy I need to just clear it all out, but I did NOT have time for it today!
Once upon a time, I would not have been able to stop it, but today, I did what I knew to do. I stopped what I was doing and sat down to draw. By the time I went to pick up my daughter, 15 minutes later, I was back in my right mind and able to get through the next 5 hours of insanity.
Were all of the things stressing me out over and done with? Nope, I was still dealing with an ailing parent, kid chaos, and a 9-hour drive with said kids looming to go see said parent. BUT, I was feeling grounded again and ready to face the next few days.
One of the reasons intuitive art is such a powerful way to re-center and transmute dense, erratic energy is because it gives our brains something else to focus on. If I had just stopped to breath in that moment, it would have helped me calm down a little, temporarily, but in my experience, when I’m that swirled up in my “stuff,” I tend to keep thinking about all the “stuff” when I’m trying to breathe and calm down.
Turning to intuitive art gets you COMPLETELY out of the loop for a few minutes, and it gives that energy somewhere to go.
Next time you’re on the verge of a meltdown, break out your art supplies and see what happens!
Here’s my rage painting if you’re curious what all that “stuff” looks like!
